This balm is great for cold and flu season, or anytime you're feeling congested. It's great to add to your medicine cabinet if you're like me and want to use products focusing on simple, natural ingredients whenever possible. It can be applied all over the chest, on the soles of the feet, or around the nose. This is made with organic coconut oil, calendula-infused olive oil, and a blend of powerful essential oils- Ravintsara, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Rosemary essential oils. . I grow the calendula organically here at the farm. It's a cheerful flower which is also edible and is recognized by herbalists as having antiseptic & anti-inflammatory properties. I harvest the blossoms, place in a clean glass jar and cover them with olive oil and place it in a sunny kitchen window. Once the flowers have infused into the oil, I strain it and keep in a cool dark spot so I can create this soothing balm any time of the year. Ravintsara is well-known for its use in treating lung ailments, congestion, works as an expectorant, boosts the immune system, and is an antibacterial and antiviral. It also has antidepressant properties and is used to relieve stress. You can feel it going to work when you inhale its eucalyptus-like scent. It's one of the most powerful oils for congestion and colds, but can be hard to find and is not used in many handmade recipes. We combine Ravintsara with eucalyptus, which is known for being an anti-inflammatory, decongestant and antibacterial oil; peppermint, which has calming and antimicrobial properties; tea tree, known for being antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial and an expectorant; and rosemary, valued for treating respiratory disorders. We love this salve here at the farm for anytime we are feeling congested or coughing. It works to soften and heal skin around the nose, too. But please, do not take my word, I am not a doctor, and the FDA has not approved this listing. Talk to your own doctor, do your own research, and test on a small patch of your skin before you use it all over, especially if you think you may be sensitive to any ingredients. The salve is packaged in a 2-ounce metal tin, although we find that this size holds approximately 1.5 ounces of this particular product by weight.
