First edition, first thousand copy of the 1903 book Across the San Juan Mountains by T. A. Rickard and published by the Engineering and Mining Journal. It tells of a 14 day horseback tour of various Colorado mines where he was accompanied by H.N. Todd, Lionel Lindsay, and C.H. Wittenoom. Rickard was the state geologist at the time,so the book is full of geologic descriptions, mine operations during a gold boom, including descriptions of machinery of the time. It is a beautiful description of the area in general. 50 black and white photos are included. 115 pages.
Estate sales find, please see photos. Some wear to corners, edges and spine but no fading and the gilding is still in beautiful condition. Pages are intact and binding is tight. Overall, in excellent condition for a 120 year old book!
