World's Dispensary Dime Series 1894: Diseases of the Respiratory Organs
World's Dispensary Dime Series 1894: Diseases of the Respiratory Organs
Interesting antique booklet titles World's Dispensary Series Part III, Diseases of the Respiratory Organs. Put out by the World's Dispensary Medical Association of Buffalo, NY. It is an interesting look into late 1800's medicine, and how quack medicine was passed off as genuine. The book starts off by describing how to use their products for diseases like consumption, bronchitis, asthma and more. This is followed by pages of testimonials of "cured" customers. The last third of the book describes their sanitarium, where patients could stay to be cured. Curiously, there is a page on avoiding scams which includes not mentioning where you are going to anyone in town, which sounds very suspicious! A really neat look at medical history in the United States.
Vintage estate find, please see photos. Overall in good condition. Some staining on cover. Pages are intact and binding is in good condition. Minor wear to cover, especially to corners, plus a small tear. Condition is as expected for a book that is nearly 130 years old!
