The title page goes on to state that this is " the record of a wonderful career which, like that of Abraham Lincoln, by native energy and untiring industry, led it's hero from obscurity to the foremost position in the American Nation." The book also includes "...a full account of his election to the presidency, the first months of his administration, his conflict with the 'stalwarts', attempted assassination, surgical treatment, the sympathy of the nation, etc" by William Ralston Balch, managing editor of The American. In good to very good condition for age. Minor wear to corners and cover edges. Pencil inscription on inside cover page, back cover has a library pocket from the Rushford Free Library of Rushford, N.Y. Occasional smudges or small stains inside, but pages are in good condition and binding is intact. Very readable copy if handled gently, or use it as a fascinating display!
