1918 first edition copy of Modern American Homes, published by C.L. Bowes of Chicago. This would have been a showroom catalog for a home builder. The front was embossed Modern American Homes and Parkersburg Mill Co., W.Va. It has housing styles, floor plans, and options for elements like doors, fireplaces, furniture, windows and more. Most pages show model home plans. There are also a couple of plans for garages and barns as well. Hardcover, 288 pages including index.
Possibly the most interesting part of this find are the receipts found inside the front cover, all are marked The Parkersburg Mill Company, matching the name stamped on the front cover. They included receipts, account credits and partial material lists. All dated between 1924-1926.
Antique estate find, please see photos. The cover has wear to the edges, corners and spine as shown, this was definitely a working copy. In good condition otherwise - pages are intact, binding is tight, pages are not yellow or brittle. Pages may have smudges and pencil notations. A fascinating look back at home architecture of 100 years ago!
