Antique edition of The Modern World from Charlemagne to the Present Time, by Betten and Kaufmann
Antique 1919 copy of The Modern World from Charlemagne to the Present Time, with a Preliminary Survey of Ancient Times, by Rev. Francis S. Betten and Rev. Alfred Kaufmann. Published by Allyn and Bacon. Appears to be a first edition copy. Hardcover, 901 pages including index. Organized into 11 parts with 65 chapters.
As it was written by two reverends, history is presented through a Christian lens, with the start of the book focusing on history beginning at Creation, before the deluge. It moves into Roman and Greek history, Charlemagne, and the Crusades, and moves through history up to the Great War (WW I). The book contains numerous black and white illustrations, mostly architecture and portraits, along with a number of maps, some of which are in color.
Antique copy, please review all photos. There is a noticable stain on the spine and wear to the cover, especially at corners and edges. Some pages have a slight water stain in the upper corner and may have folded corners. Pages are intact and well bound, not brittle or yellow. Very readable condition. Am interesting look at history published over 100 years ago!
